Pick Your Potion

Happy Tuesday everyone so glad you decided to stop by today. I have been super busy creating Halloween cards (messy, messy craft right now). I brought ten of the cards to work yesterday to get my wonderful  assistant's feedback. She has been super helpful getting me up to speed on this blog thing.  Big kudos to Nikki.  This  was her favorite card.

Today's card is replicated from Linda Callahan, clean team designer for Freshly Made Sketches.  It was my favorite post for challenge #306 and I had to take a shot at recreating the card.

You can find the inspiration card here.

I did change the die used for the sentiment.  I think it gives the card a wonky look which is great for Halloween.  I bought that set of dies years ago and cannot remember  the manufacturer.

I will send this card to one of my granddaughters.  I am sure she will love it.

Supplies used:

Very Vanilla cut 41/4 x 11 scored at 51/2.
Basic Black cut with Wonky Rectangles.
Spooky Night Designer Series Paper cut at 4 x 11/2, 4 x 7/8.
Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie Inks used with Festive Phrases stamp set.
Metallics Sequin Assortment added as embellishment.

Stop back Thursday night at 9 pm for the Glitter Queens blog hop.  Our theme is Halloween and I am sure you will find lots of spooky inspiration.

Ornament Card FMS #307

Welcome everyone, so glad you stopped by today to see what is new at The Paper Maven.
Here is a quick and easy card that was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches # 307. It is really fun to take a sketch and make it your own using different shapes and elements.  I had many different ideas but eventually decided I liked this one best.  The inside of the card completes the sentiment with "and peace this holiday season".

A big thanks to all of the design team members who support this challenge every week.  You are awesome!

I found the large ornament in my stash as I was looking to see what might be fun to use for Christmas cards this year.  I bought this a long time ago and I have never used it on a card before.  Obviously I have too many things in my craft room (LOL).  You could use any large die in your stash that has an open design.

Please visit the FMS website HERE to see everyone's interpretation of this week's sketch.

Supplies used:
Base is navy blue cardstock (51/2 x 81/2, scored at 41/4.
Mat is soft grey (53/8 x 4/1/8).
Top layer is whisper white (51/4 x 4) embossed with Stampin' UP! Softly Falling.
Ornament is die cut  from the embossed whisper white and Silver Foil paper.
Vellum is behind the ornamen.
Sentiment is from Tim Holtz and cut from Silver Foil paper
Ribbon is from Stampin' UP!.

Spotlight Saturday - Pumpkin Pie Waffles - Gluten Free

Fall is finally here and the weather is cool enough to crave the comfort foods of Autumn.  My hubby loves breakfast and today I made a favorite of his, Pumpkin Pie Waffles.  These waffles are spiced with lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.  This spice combo is the best!  These waffles freeze well and make great ice cream sandwiches.

Here is the recipe for gluten free pumpkin pie waffles:

1. Combine and mix well: 4 eggs, 1 cup yogurt, 1 cup pumpkin, 1/2 c cider, 8 tablespoons of melted butter or oil and 2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar.

2. Add: 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon ginger and 1/2 teaspoon of salt and mix well.

3. In a separate bowl combine: 2 cups of gluten free oat flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder and a teaspoon of baking soda.Mix the dry ingredients into the batter and mix gently.

4. Cook on waffle iron for 4 -5 minutes

The dough will be thicker than you might be used to making for waffles.

I also add one of the following to the batter just before baking; cooked crumbled bacon, chopped nuts, pumpkin seeds or diced apples.

Top your waffle with butter and maple syrup and enjoy!

Turn your breakfast into dessert by adding Graeter's  Pumpkin ice cream!  It's the perfect combo to really satisfy your craving for pumpkin. Can't find Graeter's ice cream in your grocery store?  Shop here!

My inspiration for this recipe comes from Ken Haedrich's Country Breakfasts, Four Seasons of Cozy Morning Meals. I replaced the whole wheat flour with gluten free oat flour, added pumpkin and adjusted other ingredients to accommodate our taste buds.

We both love anything pumpkin so you will be seeing quite a few recipes with this ingredient over the next couple of months on Saturday Spotlight.

Lovely Sunflowers From Painted Harvest

This past Sunday was my oldest daughter's 46th birthday. It's hard to believe this many years have past since she was just a baby in my arms.  She is now a great Mom of 4 adorable grandchildren.

She has a great sense of humor (almost always).  Of course I think she is beautiful and very smart.  By the way, she reminds me of me. 😍

She likes sunflowers so I thought the Painted Harvest stamp set would be perfect for her birthday card.

Supplies: Whisper White, Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler cardstock; Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler and Soft Suede Ink; Birthday Delivery and Painted Harvest stamp sets; Wink of Stella and Stampin' UP Rhinestones.

I forgot to take a picture of the envelope before I mailed it.  I used two sentiments from Five for All. Can you guess which two?
