Play Along With Card Sketch 26

Good morning crafters.  The weekend is almost here.  Yippee!  Our weekend actually begins tonight.  My hubby's four day work week gives us a 3 day weekend all the time.  However the 10 hour work days (usually turn into 12 hours) are long and tiring.

 Today I am sharing another Glitter Queens card sketch.  These sketches are awesome and easy to adjust to make the card your own.  Dawn's card is here.

The new Share What You Love Designer Series Paper (DSP) used in this project is so pretty.  It was hard to chose which design to use for my card.  All the flower colors are pearlized.  It was hard to capture this element in a picture. I don't think it shows up well.

Try Glitter Queens Card Sketch # 24

Happy Tuesday everyone.  I had a wonderful weekend and I hope you did too.  Friday night our youngest granddaughter Lily slept over (always a treat for Nonni and Poppy).  I made New Hope Mills animal shaped pancakes Saturday morning for her. This mix is  the same pancake mix my grandmother used when I was a child.  Best pancakes ever! It was always a huge competition among my siblings to see who could eat more of Grandma's pancakes. One of my brothers usually won.

Saturday evening had a great time with Heather and Jim.  So looking forward to our next get together.

Sunday's event was The King and I.  The play was awesome.  So many emotional scenes throughout, laughing one minute, crying the next.

I tweaked the measurements a bit.  See Recipe below. I used a retired stamp set but I am sure you can find a similar sentiment in your stash.

Create Card Gift Packs

Happy Tuesday everyone! This past weekend's Gourmet Club was another success.  Our club is four couples who come together about once a month to share a meal and enjoy each other's company.  One couple hosts ( it was my turn) and plans the main entree.  Others take care of appetizer, dessert, cocktail and soup or salad.  For the main entree, I chose to brine and butterfly  (never did this before) whole chicken fryers and roast at 500 degrees.  I was worried about the baking instructions but the chicken turned out very moist with crispy skin. This recipe is definitely worthy of a repeat performance.

We have a tradition of a small gift being placed at the table for the ladies (sometimes the men get one but not often).  I remembered I needed to take care of this late Friday evening.  I needed to come up with something quickly. 

The supplies you see in the picture (left) were scattered on my workstation. As I started to clean up Friday night, I got an idea for the small gift I needed.

I created a gift pack of cards that needed to be put together for each of the ladies.  I used Picture Perfect Party  and True Gentleman Designer Series Paper, coordinating cardstock, ink, dimensionals, embellishments and a variety of stamps.  I used the card desgin from my Glitter Queens Blog Hop post which made the gift packs quick and easy to assemble.

Debbie, Marie and Terre had 4 cards each to ink  and assemble with a picture of the card on thier phones to guide them.  They picked their sentiments and stamped the circles right before they left Saturday night.  It was great material for a blog post.  Unfortunately,  I forgot to take a picture.  I will tag them when I post on Facebook and encourage sharing of their finished cards.

Winner, Donate Stash & Try Sketch #23

Good morning everybody!  The calendar says Spring is here however mother nature is still holding on to winter.  Nonetheless, I am in an organizing, spring cleaning state of mind.  I am trying really hard to get rid of the craft supplies I have hoarded over the years.

I found a great organization that will take my craft treasures. You can find them HERE .  My granddaughter's day care also takes donations, especially cardstock.  If you need to declutter, I am sure you can find several local organizations that will accept supplies that are in good shape.


Today's card design is from Dawn Griffith, Sketch # 23.  I had a little trouble with this design initially, but after playing for awhile I came up with a good solution for me.

Card base is 5½ x 8½ scored at 4¼.
Silver Foil 5½ x 4¼ (completely covers card front)
DSP Springtime Foils (Reverse side) cut (2) 5¼ x 4 (inside card back)
Silver Foil cut 3¾ x 5; embossed, Simple Striped
DSP cut 3 x 3¾ and then cut on the diagonal, use reverse side for one piece
DSP Springtime Foil cut at 2½ x 4 (use reverse side)
Basic Black cut at 2 5/8 by 4 1/8
Three black rhinestones

Welcome everyone! So glad you stopped by today. It's time for April's Glitter Queens Blog Hop. I am so excited to showcase the True Gentleman Design Series Paper (DSP) this month. I have quite a few male birthdays coming up and this paper is perfect for the cards I need.  I was having so much fun with this DSP I created three cards.  

I love all the cards I made, but this one is my favorite.  I used this same design recently with March's Paper Pumpkin kit (watch for that post next week) and wanted to see how it would look with True Gentleman.  I think it looks awesome.    

To get the angle right on each section of the background DSP I choose two sheets that I thought coordinated well cut each at 4 x 5 ¼. Then with both 4 x 5¼ pieces together I cut at an angle.  I have the 2 leftovers to make a second card, (a two for one perk).

I used Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake and Chocolate Chip cardstock, Starburt Punch, Stitched Shapes Framelits, True Gentleman Buttons, Linen Thread and Five For All stamp set. The circle is hand cut (3 1/8) and inked with Night of Navy.

TIP: You may want to consider creating a template of your card design.  Play with the pieces and see what happens.  I bet you will come up with 2 or 3 different designs using the same pieces in the template.  

I do not glue my templates together.  I keep the pieces loose in a page proctector so I can play with them whenever I need inspiration.  I do keep a picture of each card I make with each template on my computer.  

This next card is a great example of how well the designs in True Gentelman coordinate.  Of course, this is true for all of Stampin'UP!'s DSP.  Thank you Stampin' UP! for making card crafting so much easier.  

This card measures 6 x 6 so its large and has a tab for the interactive pull out that is behind the mat on the inside card base.  This size allowed me  to place three rows of tags across the card.  

I will need to make a custom envelope for this.  LOL

You may not notice in the picture that the Tailored Tag(s) are popped at various levels.  To help keep the tags aligned I glued the four corner ones first.  This tag has straight edges on each end which helped immensely.

I backed each tag with a piece of coordinating cardstock (punched with Tailored Tag) to add strength since this will be sent via USPS.


                                                                                                      
Here are two pictures of the pull out.  It measures 5 x 5.  The arrow on the bottom prompts the recipient to turn the card over.  On the other side it says "= you're really 88".




I made the arrow from the stamp set Inspired Events.  I cut apart the Cross stamp, stamped the bottom part on the mat and added the pointer with a Stampin Write.

I also used Very Vanilla and Night of Navy cardstock, Wood Textures DSP, Night of Navy Ink and Five For All stamp set.

Try Card Sketch # 22

Good morning!  So glad you stopped by to see what is new at The Paper Maven.  Today is a very busy day for me so my post is short and sweet.

I am sharing my take on Dawn Griffith's Card Sketch # 22.

Supplies used are Stampin' UP!'s Design Series Paper True Gentlemen, Wood Textures, Night of Navy cardstock, and Chocolate Chip cardstock, pearls, and ink.

The sentiment is from stamp set Picture Perfect Birthday.  The squares are popped at different levels.  Top right square is flat against the mat.    Top left is popped with Foam Adhesives Strips.  Bottom right is popped with Stampin Dimensionals.  Bottom left square is  flat against the fishtail.
